Eastnor Castle

Eastnor, Near Ledbury, Herefordshire

Eastnor Castle is a mock castle, 2 miles from the town of Ledbury in Herefordshire.

It was constructed in 1810 at a cost of £85,000 or equivalent to approximately £8.5m in todays value.

The estate was started in the late 16th century when the Cock's family purchased local land. Subsequent marriages into the Somers and Nash families helped provide the wealth and substance necessary to build this imposing castle which was designed to look like a medieval castle guarding the welsh borders. The architect was Robert Smirke.

In the dramatic setting of the Malvern Hills and surrounded by a beautiful deer park, arboretum and lake, this fairy-tale castle is the home of the Hervey-Bathurst family.

Eastnor has undergone a triumphant renaissance in recent years, and many of the Castle treasures are now displayed for the first time in richly decorated Italianate and Gothic splendour.

The Castle grounds contain a famous arboretum of spectacular rare trees descending to a 22 acre lake. The deer park beyond, on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills, has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest within the local Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Castle Restoration Exhibition
Adventure Playground
Assault Course & Children's Maze
Lakeside Walk and Woodland Walk
Gift Shop
Children's Fun Worksheets
Tea-room

Peace,
you should be a location director for films since you have such a romantic interest in exotic buildings of historical values.

Do you have a travelogue in the works?

Have a great weekend.
